Building Strong Core

June 25, 2020

High school football coaches will all agree that the weight room is where the foundation of the program is built during the offseason. With a freshly renovated training facility now available to athletes at Crestline, the Bulldogs are starting to see an uptick in participation for head coach Jonny King as he enters his second year running the squad.

"Last year we didn't have that many guys coming out around this time of year", said Dawgs OL/DL coach Austin Parrigan. "The work ethic and all this time they're putting in is a lot better and we're a lot ahead of where we were last year."

Crestline finished 2019 with four wins during King's first season at the helm. He feels with the group of returning talent mixed with a renewed dedication to strength and conditioning that his team can take a step forward when fall arrives.

"I think we've got a pretty skilled team", King says. "We've got experience on the line. Quarterback is gonna be a question mark just developing a new kid there but there's a lot of potential."

A key returning starter this season will be senior LT Ethan Clark who has been a fixture at the varsity level for the past three seasons. Clark says he's stoked to see an improved turnout for summer workouts and is just happy to be back with the guys again after school was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"It's definitely a blessing to actually be out here and be working out with the guys", Clark said. "I've never seen this many committed guys at Crestline since I've been in school."
