WILLARD -- A heavyweight showdown between state-ranked teams ended with D3 #6 Willard topping D4 #4 Buckeye Central their first loss of the season in a 56-53 overtime thriller at Bob Haas Gymnasium.

The previously unbeaten Buckettes (11-1) built an 11-8 first quarter edge before a 20-12 spurt by the Crimson Flashes (11-1)  put the road team on top 28-23 at the half. The next two quarters would unfold in reverse fashion as Willard put together a slim 10-9 third quarter margin before the Buckettes surged in the fourth 16-10 to force an extra session with the contest tied at 48-48.

 

In the overtime period, the Lady Flashes came out strong to build an early cushion and held off a Buckeye Central run to secure a monster non-conference victory.

 

Claudia Pfeifer put up 21 pts and 8 rebounds for BC in a losing effort as Layla Dials led Willard with 17 pts and 4 rebounds.
