Your Voice Is The Only Thing That Matters

Why I Joined The OH Report

By: Don Bryant     7-03-2020

I joined the OH Report because of my love for politics and as an opportunity to continue reporting to the public since I’m no longer on the City Council. Now it’s true, everyone has a political lean to the right or left. Personally, I love to stick to the middle. It gives me a reason to investigate all sides of the political spectrum.

My academic background is political science, international relations and security & intelligence. I originally started my career training to be a Foreign Service officer with the U.S. Department of State. I wanted to be an American Diplomat and work at an overseas embassy. And I could have done that. But at my young age, I was bold and decided I’d rather work at a different agency so I could have skills like Jason Bourne and serve my country running secret intelligence operations. What a crazy fantasy, right?

Perhaps it was a blessing that in the middle of the process of trying to become an intelligence officer with this government agency, that I fell ill and had to have a few surgeries. I say blessing because at the end of the day, I probably wouldn’t have been a good fit for that job. I’m high-energy, loud, and it just wasn’t my calling.

So, I eventually settled on studying political science only to find it

wasn’t what I thought it was. Most of the work was focused on data, mathematical formulas, and structuring arguments. Very little of the work focused on political parties.

The definition of political science is: the social study concerning the allocation and transfer of power in decision making, the roles and systems of governance including governments and international organizations, political behavior and public policies.

And I love that because not everything is about whether you’re a democrat or a republican, conservative or liberal. At least, that’s not the approach I’m taking. When I write about politics for OH Report, I’m looking at who has the political power, what they’re doing with it, and then I put a little opinion in there to speculate on why things are playing out the way they are. But what I really enjoy is finding out what people think about the issues. I think the voice of the people is where the real power is, you know, the court of public opinion.

As we approach the political season, I want you to know that I’m not for one candidate or one political party over the other. My reports and future writings are for the purpose of entertaining your thoughts on the issues, and then I’ll work on amplifying your voice to our OH Report audience.

If you have an issue of importance and would like to talk about it, I invite you to come on to my weekly show. The show is broadcast live via several of our OH Report platforms. Reach out to us here on Facebook or e-mail. If that’s something that interests you, then please come with it, be interesting and hit your points hard. OH Report is not here to push out standardized news. We want to inform, but more so engage our audience in lively and meaningful conversation. So, let’s get it.
