The Shelby football team improved to 2-0 with a 27-24 win at Lexington that wasn’t decided until the closing minutes of the final quarter.
After falling behind 10-7 in the second quarter, the Whippets racked up 20 straight points on a trio of McGwire Albert touchdowns. Shelby ’s junior signal caller connected with Tanner Stephens (13 yds) and Cameron Stine (19 yds) in the end zone then scampered in for a 4 yard TD to put his squad up 27-10 with 6:51 to play in the third stanza.

Kadin Berry, who finished the night with 140 rushing yds and 2 scores, punched in a short TD run late in the third before Josh Aiello pulled the Minutemen within a field goal on a 16 yd TD grab with 1:41 left in regulation. Shelby recovered Lexington’s onside kick attempt though and were able to hold on for a key road win.
