Week 11 High School Football

The high school football State Championship chase begins this weekend where seven area teams will be competing in Week 11. Here's a break down of each matchup.

The 2nd-seeded Mansfield Senior Tygers are in the midst of its best season since 2013 and have a chance to make a run at the Region 10 crown.


First up for the 9-1 Tygers in the postseason is 7th-seeded Bay Village. The Rockets finished the season 7-3 with a two point loss at 5-5 Revere, but still made the postseason. Their other two losses came to 8-2 Holy Name and 8-2 Buckeye, who are both in the Region 10 playoffs.


The winner of this quarterfinal will take on the winner of #3 Columbian and #6 Holy Name next Friday in
the Regional Semifinal at a site to be determined by the OHSAA.

The Lucas Cubs are back in the postseason for the sixth-consecutive year

and will be at home in week 11 for the third-straight season.


The 2nd-seeded Cubs (8-2) two losses were to opponents with a combined

18-2 record (D6,R22 #4 Northmor and D6,R23 #1 Lima Central Catholic). They hold key victories over Division 6 Centerburg (7-3) in week 2, Division 2 St. Charles (4-6) in week 7 and Region 27 #8 Fisher Catholic (8-2) in week 8.


Lucas will host 7th-seeded McDonald (6-4), who got in despite a week 10 loss. Their losses came all
against teams in Division 6, Region 21 (10-0 #1 Springfield, 8-2 #7 Brookfield, 8-2 #8 Berlin Western
Reserve and 7-3 Columbiana). They do not have a key victory.


The winner of this game will face either #3 Toronto (8-2) or #6 St. Thomas Aquinas (6-3) on Saturday at
7:00 PM in the Regional Semifinals at a site to be determined by the OHSAA.

                                                 The Shelby Whippets needed a week 10 victory to clinch a postseason                                                        spot and home game.
                                                  The 4th-seeded Whippets (7-3) lost close games to Division 2 Big Walnut (                                                 (4-6) and region 14 #3 Galion (8-2) while also falling to Division 6,                                                             Region 23 #1 Lima Central Catholic (9-1). Their key victories came in
week 5 over Division 5, Region 18 #3 Pleasant (8-2), week 9 over Division 3 River Valley (6-4) and over
Clear Fork (6-4) in week 10.


The Whippets go up against 5th-seeded Edison (7-3), whose three losses were to opponents with a
combined 27-3 record (D6, R22 #2 Seneca East, D3,R10 #1 Norwalk and D5, R18 #1 Oak Harbor).
Their key wins were in week 3 over Division 6, Region 22 #1 Western Reserve (9-1) and over Huron (7-
3) in week 10.


The winner of this quarterfinal will face either #1 Keystone(9-1) or #8 Clyde (6-4) in the Regional
Semifinals next Saturday at 7:00 PM at a site to be determined by the OHSAA.

 

The Galion Tigers are back in the postseason

for the first time since 2015 and at home for

week 11 forthe first time in ten years.


The 3rd-seeded Tigers two losses were both

decided late falling to Clear Fork (6-4) and

Division 5, Region 18 #3 Pleasant (8-2). Their key win came in week 7 when they defeated region #4 Shelby (7-3).


Galion goes up against 6th-seeded Ottawa-Glandorf (7-3), whose three losses were to opponents with a
combined 27-3 record (D5,R18 #4 Eastwood, D4,R16 #4 Kenton and D3, R12 #2 Wapakoneta). Their
key win came in week 3 over Division 3, Region 12 #6 St, Mary's Memorial (8-2).


The winner of this game will move on to the Regional Semifinal to face either #2 Wauseon (8-2) or #7
Bellevue (6-4) on Saturday at 7:00 PM at a site to be determined by the OHSAA.

The Wooster Generals had a tough start to the season, but won its final seven games to sneak into the
playoffs in week 10.


The 8th-seeded Generals (7-3) three losses were to teams with

a combined 24-6 record in #3 Wadsworth (8-2), Division 5,

Region 18 #2 Orrville (9-1) and Division 3, Region 9 #3 Dover (7-3).

Their key win came in week 8 when they defeated Division 3, Region 10

#2 Mansfield Senior (9-1) in the final seconds.


This week they will face the region's top seed in undefeated Avon. The Eagles stayed in the region for
eight games with its other two wins coming against teams in Division 1, Region 1 (6-4 Lorain and 4-6
Berea Midpark). Their key in-region victories came in week 1 against #2 Avon Lake (9-1) and week 9
against #6 Olmstead Falls (7-3).


The winner of this Regional Quarterfinal will take on either #4 Benedictine or #5 Brecksville-Broadview
Heights in the Regional Semifinal Friday at 7:00 PM at a site to be determined by the OHSAA.

A marquee matchup of the area playoff Friday slate will take place in North Bloomfield Township as
two area squads in Division 6, Region 22 will face off in #4-seeded Northmor (9-1) hosting #5-seeded
Hillsdale (7-3).


The Golden Knights lone setback came in week 6 to undefeated and 3rd-seeded East Knox. They have
key victories over Region 24 #5 Worthington Christian (8-2) and Division 7, Region 25 #2 Lucas (8-2).


The Falcons needed a victory over Waynedale in week 10 to clinch a playoff spot. Their losses came to
Region #7 Norwayne (5-5), Region 21 #6 Dalton (9-1) and Smithville (5-5). Their key victory came in
week 3 over region #6 Crestview (7-3).


The winner of this game will move on to the Regional Semifinal where they will face the winner of #1
Western Reserve (9-1) and #8 Carey (5-5) next Friday at 7:00 PM at a site determined by the OHSAA.
