Tygers Football Journey To

The State Championship

The Mansfield Senior football team has done their best to stay in the moment and not look beyond their next game throughout the 2019 season, in hopes of making a run for the state title. With just one game remaining on the schedule, the Canton-bound Tygers can now focus on accomplishing their dreams as they prepare for the program's first state championship appearance.

Senior High's incredible journey is the combination of both hard work and talent coming together with a singular focus to consistently get better. A veteran group, that features five All-Ohio selections, had exceptional leadership in place that led by example both on the practice field and under the Friday night lights.

With a school-record 13 wins and exciting playoff run featuring back-to-back game-winning touchdowns in overtime, fans have latched on to this team in support of their historic journey. Alongside their Richland County allies the Lucas Cubs, who will also play for a state title this weekend, the players have inspired a common-bond in the community to back one another along the way.

Now the only thing standing in the way of Mansfield Senior claiming the county's first football state championship is perennial state power Trotwood-Madison who will be making their 15th state appearance, including nine consecutive trips to the Final Four. The task for the Tygers will certainly be a challenge, but so far the squad has hurdled every obstacle in their way to this point, so why stop now?
