Shelby Wrestling Pins Newark Catholic & Highland

SHELBY -- The Shelby Whippets wrestling squad hosted Newark Catholic and Highland in a tri-match where the home team came out victorious on both ends knocking off the Green Wave 54-21 and the Scots 45-36.

The Whippets (8-3) started off down 18-0 in their first match vs Newark before answering in a big way with victories via pinfall in four of its next five matches to take a commanding 30-18 lead. The Green Wave (1-3) then answered with a decision victory, but Shelby would then win via pin in the final two matches to close things down.

Highland (9-7) gave the Whippets a more challenging battle, jumping out to a 9-0 lead after two matches. Shelby then answered with victories in three of the next four, with two via pinfall, to take a 15-12 edge. The Scots responded with wins in the next two matches by pinfall to retake the lead at 24-15, but Shelby answered the bell one more time by finishing things out with two wins by pinfall for the victory.

Whippets wrestlers Garrett Montgomery, Trace Thomas, Micah Miller, Davey Ray and Carson Ingram (#7 D2 220 LB Wrestler) all won both of their matches while Garrett Baker and Garrett Woodhull took one match.
