Lady Whippets Take Clash of Unbeatens vs Harding

It was a close battle of undefeated conference foes between Shelby and Marion Harding with the Lady Whippets staying perfect with a 45-43 win on their home court.

With members of the 1983 state championship team in attendance, honored before the game with a special ceremony, Shelby improved to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference action. The Whippets defense was on point and the team relied on free throws down the stretch to defeat the Lady Prexies, who dip to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in the MOAC.

In the first quarter, the Lady Whippets led 10-9 and maintained the lead into the half, holding a 22-18 advantage. Eleven points were gained by Marion Harding in the third while Shelby only scored 8, as the back and forth battle continued into the final frame with the Lady Prexies trailing 30-29.

Led by senior center Bailey Walter who poured in a game-best 14 points, the Lady Whippets made nine of eleven free throws and scored 15 fourth-quarter points to hang on for a 2-point victory.

Shelby will next go up against Buckeye Valley on December 18 while Marion Harding will face off with Scott on December 15.
