Whippets Win Regional Title in Boy’s Track


The Shelby boy’s track team are on their way to the D2 state track championships for the first time since the program won back-to-back boy’s titles in 2003 and 2004.


The Whippets scored 77 points to beat out Columbus Bishop DeSales and Columbus Bishop Hartley. Shelby won the 4X800 relay on Thursday, with team members Caleb Brown, Blake Lucius, Sam Logan, and Uriah Schwemley.


Individually Brown won the 1600 and the 3200 and Lucius won and broke the school record in the 800.


Logan placed fourth in the 1600 and 3200 which seated him a spot in next weekends state meet, while Uriah Schwemley, who after clearing a 6-7 high jump, will defend his state championship in the event after winning the regional title.


The state tournament runs May 31st-June 1st at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus.
