Lady Whippets Beat Mansfield For 21st Win

Shelby set a new school record with their 21st regular season victory, taking care of Mansfield Senior 51-38 on the road.

The Lady Whippets (21-1) win would come at a price though, as junior Sydney Seibert suffered an injury that may keep her out for the postseason and sophomore Sophie Niese would leave the game with a head injury. They controlled the action from the opening tip, though, doubling up the Tygers 12-6 in the first before taking a 24-15 halftime lead.

Mansfield (6-16) would try and claw their way back into the game with a third quarter spurt fueled by Jayjanae Feagin's eight points in the frame to outscore the Lady Whippets 12-11. Emma Randall would have a monster fourth to put the game away, however, scoring eight of her game-best 19 points to secure the victory.

Feagin finished with 15 pts to lead the Tygers with Akira Johnson adding 10. Olivia Baker joined Randall in double-figures with 10 pts for Shelby who got 7 pts from Haylee Baker.

The Lady Whippets will face the winner between Clear Fork and Lexington next Saturday for the Monroeville Sectional championship. Mansfield opens against Norwalk in a sectional semifinal.
