Shelby Runs Over Madison In Week 1 Blowout
It may just be one game, but the Shelby football squad proved they were far from rebuilding with their Week 1 performance against cross-county rival Madison. With 18 new starters in the Whippets lineup, the Hungry Hounds rolled the Rams 48-8 on opening night in front of their home fans as Skiles Field.
Shelby led 21-0 after the opening frame, increasing their edge to 35-0 at the half and completely shut down Madison’s offense until they emptied the bench in the fourth quarter.
Junior QB McGwire Albert completed 10-14 passes for 210 yds and 2 scores, both to senior WR Uriah Schwemley. Junior Grant Gossom hauled in 3 catches for 94 yds and also intercepted a pair of passes from Madison QB Kadin Mullins while sophomore RB Owen Fisher ripped off 170 yds and 2 TD’s on 16 carries.
The Whippets (1-0) travel to Lexington in Week 2 while the Rams (0-1) host River Valley.
