Pifher Drops 27 On Shelby In Buckettes 54-40 Win
NEW WASHINGTON --An out of conference matchup versus two premier girls basketball teams saw Shelby travel to Buckeye Central where the state-ranked Buckettes outplayed the Lady Whippets in the second half for a 54-40 victory.
The game started off uber-competitive with both teams trading blows and the lead being changed many times in the first half. Shelby (10-4) led 14-11 after the first and came out on top after two-quarters of play with a 25-23 edge behind Haylee Baker’s 7 points.
The Buckettes (17-1) seemed to flip a switch coming out of the halftime break, changing the game into a three-point shooting contest that Shelby was not ready for. Buckeye Central rained down 12 points in the third from behind the arc while Shelby only managed to notch 7 total points in the frame, giving the Buckettes a 41-32 cushion.
The fourth was no different than the third as Shelby looked helpless on the defensive end against Claudia Pifher as she scored exactly half of her team's total points with a game-best 27. Shelby was unable to find an answer on either end of the floor throughout the second half as they dropped their first game out of quarantine while BC notched their sixth consecutive victory.
