THE FUTURE OF LOCAL SPORTS

A dominating performance by 3rd seeded Shelby in their tournament opener punched the Lady Whippets ticket to the Division II Bucyrus Sectional title game. A 72-38 drubbing of #12 Vermilion also notched Shelby their 21st victory of the season behind a total team effort.

 

Stud junior forward Emma Randall led the way for the Lady Whippets with a 7-12 shooting display, finishing with 23 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Senior forward Bailey Walter had a 13 point, 10 rebound double-double, while Cierra Gurney added 10 points and 9 boards and freshman guard Sophia Niese scored 10 points on just 6 shots and handed out 6 assists.

 

The Lady Sailors put two players in double-figure scoring, receiving 17 from freshman guard Marianna Plas and 10 by Clara Smith.

 

Next up for Shelby (21-2) is the Sectional Championship vs cross-county, 9th-seeded rival Lexington.
