Shelby Blasts Ontario 8-1 For 1st MOAC Win
In a Richland County showdown at Shelby, the Whippets handled defending MOAC champion Ontario 8-1 to claim their first league win of the young season.
Ohio State-bound shortstop Avery Fisher put the Warriors on the board with a run in the top of the first, but Ontario would fail to cross home plate again. Shelby quickly answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning, which would have been enough for junior starting pitcher Blaise Caudill who gave up 1 run on 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out 6 in six innings of action.
The Whippets tacked on three more runs in their half of the third with RBI from Evan Bogner and Austin Gray before extending their edge to 6-1 when Caudill drove in his second run of the game. Marek Albert then brought home the final two runs of the night on a right field single that all but shut the door on an Ontario rally.
Shelby improves to 3-3, 1-2 with the win while the Warriors dip to 3-2, 1-2.
