Week 5 Arlin Field
Sandusky vs Mansfield Senior
Tygers Win Clash of Undefeateds vs Sandusky
The football rivalry between Mansfield Senior and Sandusky was renewed following an 11 year hiatus on Friday night with the Tygers and Blue Streaks meeting as undefeateds. It would be a fast start for the road team but Senior High would hold serve at Arlin Field with a 21-14 victory to stay perfect at 5-0.
On the third play from scrimmage, Sandusky RB Terion Stewart broke free for a 68 yard TD burst to put the Streaks out in front less than two minutes into the contest. Both defenses would then seize control, with no points going on the board until the closing minutes of the opening half.
Tygers WR Angelo Grose would knot things up on a 31-yard reception in the end zone with just over two minutes until the half, then made an amazing catch in double coverage to set Mansfield up for another score. Grose would haul in a 3-yard pass from Cam Todd with 10 seconds left in the second quarter to give Senior High a 14-7 edge at the break.
Following a scoreless third, the Tygers extended their lead to 21-7 on the first play of the final quarter on an Amajeon Robertson 2-yard TD scamper. Sandusky would eventually match that score with a TD drive of their own, but failed to convert an onside kick in the closing seconds as Mansfield held on for the victory.
Grose finished with 10 rec for 177 yds and 2 TD's, with Todd completing 17-22 for 232 yds and 2 scores. Stewart had 123 yds on 16 carries to carry the Blue Streaks offensively.
