Rams 2-OT Buzzer Beater Sinks Tygers

An incredibly wild finish would decide the Division II Sectional Championship at Bucyrus where top-seeded Upper Sandusky used a game-winning hoop at the final horn to beat Mansfield Senior 62-61 in double-overtime.

The 7th-seeded Tygers (11-13) took control of the contest early by riding the hot hand of junior guard Shad Creamer to a 16-8 first quarter cushion but the Rams would trim their deficit down to 31-28 by the half. Upper Sandusky (22-1) then scored 11 of the first 13 points to open the third by Senior High answered the call to keep the game about even at 41-40 to start the fourth.

It appeared as though Mansfield would close out a win in regulation with a two-possession lead in the closing seconds but the Rams closed the quarter on a 4-0 spurt to force overtime. The Tygers again found themselves in the driver's seat late in OT with a 58-54 cushion before Upper made the necessary plays down the stretch to demand another session.

Mansfield Senior would find themselves at the foul line up 61-60 where Creamer would secure possession following a miss and drive in for a potential game-clinching score but missed the attempt leading to a 1-man fast break by Rams senior Cam McCreary who drove the length of the court and delivered a buzzer-beating layup to win the sectional title.

Creamer led the Tygers with 20 pts and 3 ast while Trevin Hines added 12 pts, Cam Todd 10 pts with 7 rebs and Davin Brown scored nine. Gavin Carey was the leading scorer for Upper Sandusky with 15 and 7 rebs, Evan Young had 13 pts and both Cade Adams and McCreary put up a dozen points.

The #1 Rams name advance to face #5 Ontario (17-6) in the Mansfield District Semifinals.
