Monroeville Earns Defensive Victory Over Plymouth

By Ramas Uzkurys & Brian Skowronski

MONROEVILLE -- The Firelands Conference saw Monroeville take a leg up on Plymouth in the league champion race by gutting out a 21-12 defensive battle at Marsh Field.

The Eagles remain undefeated at 4-0 with RB Eli Ott accounting for two Monroeville scores, rushing in his first of two TD's early in the second before Trevor Schaefer's 17-yard scoring grab just over two minutes later made it a 14-0 advantage.

The Big Red (3-1) fought their way back into the game with a pair of third quarter scores by Shae Sparks that trimmed the deficit down to 14-12 after failing to convert a 2-point conversion attempt. Ott would help seal the win with a TD scamper early in the fourth before the Eagles defense took over to secure the win, holding Plymouth to just 121 total offensive yards.

Next up for Monroeville (4-0) is a trip to 1-3 Mapleton while Plymouth (3-1) travels to St. Paul (3-0).
