The defending Division 5 State Champion Orrville Red Riders stay alive for its repeat bid holding off Pleasant 49-27 in a Division 5, Region 18 Semifinal at Arlin Field.
The 2nd-seeded Red Riders (11-1) struck first midway through the opening quarter when out of the wildcat, Marquael Parks ran 75-yards to the house for a 7-0 lead starting a fury of scoring with a 1:30 span.
The 3rd-seeded Spartans (9-3) immediately answered 19 seconds later as Patrick Blubaugh ran 64-yards to the endzone tying the score at 7, however, Orrville almost topped Pleasant's quick strike scoring only 20 seconds later on a Cooper Haley 55-yard pass to Elijah Hall to regain the lead at 14-7, but Pleasant again answered 53 seconds later as Austin Shaffer found Alex Joachim for a 52-yard score, but the PAT was missed making it 14-13 Orrville.
The Red Riders posted the final score of the first quarter with 2:24 left when Parks added his second touchdown rush of the quarter from 15-yards away making it 21-13 after one.
Pleasant again cut into the lead midway through the second on a Shaffer 2-yard run making it 21-19 Orrville at the break.
The Red Riders then took its largest lead of the game midway through the third quarter as Haley found Hall from from 33-yards out for a 28-19 lead after three.
The Spartans wouldn't go away, however, as Shaffer ran in from a yard out on 4th-and-goal and after the successfull 2pt conversion they only trailed 28-27 with just over 10 minutes left in the game.
It would be the closest Pleasant got as Parks put the game away with two touchdown runs from 14 and 32 yards out and a scoop and score from 24 yards away to finish the scoring giving him 5 scores on the night.
Orrville advances to the Division 5, Region 18 Championship where they will face top-seeded Oak Harbor (12-0) on Saturday at 7:00 PM at a site to be determined by the OHSAA.
