Ontario Rallys By Lex For Sectional Crown

ONTARIO -- A huge sixth inning on both offense and defense propelled #4 Ontario to a D2 Sectional Championship victory over top-seeded Lexington, 5-4, at Shelby High School.

Lady Lex would strike first in their offensive half of the first, taking a 1-0 lead on a Julian Bammann RBI single. Natalie Link would later tie things up at 1-1 in the top of the second with an RBI single of her own, but the next several frames belonged to the purple and gold.

Lexington would tally a dozen hits in the game, capitalizing for a run in the fourth and later added two more in the fifth on a single from Lili Mattia for a 4-1 advantage. Then in the top of the sixth, the Lady Warriors posted four runs on four hits to take their first lead of the night, with the big play coming on an outfield error that saw two runs cross the plate.

Lady Lex would respond in the bottom of the sixth, however, loading the bases with nobody out but would fail to bring a single score home. Ontario would close the door after allowing a leadoff runner in the seventh to earn a trip to the Willard District.
