Ontario vs Lakewood

Division II Bowling Green Regional Semifinal

Ontario Still Streaking Into Regional Title Game

No matter what the score or situation, the Ontario baseball squad never seems to question whether or not they’ll leave the field victorious. That special brand of belief continues to carry the streaking Warriors through tournament play as they secured a spot in the Division II Bowling Green Regional Championship with their incredible 25th consecutive win.

Their Regional Semifinal matchup against Lakewood (22-7) was a defensive battle for the majority of the game with both pitchers keeping the opposing offense in check. Senior Nolan Hatfield, starting on the mound for the first time in nearly two weeks, went 5 innings allowing just 4 Lancers hits and striking out 5, giving up his lone run in the 2nd inning.

The Warriors produced just 3 hits off Lakewood starter Christian Lethes through the first 5 innings and trailed the Lancers 1-0 heading into the bottom of the 6th, where in standard Ontario fashion, the team found a way to get it done. A leadoff triple by senior Jake Gleason set the stage for junior Avery Fisher who drove in the tying run with an RBI single and just 2 batters later junior Noah Creed delivered a game-winning RBI double that gave the Warriors a 2-1 victory.

Ontario’s (25-3) Regional Championship matchup should be their toughest challenge yet as the red hot Warriors will battle state #1 Wapakoneta (22-1) at Carter Park on Sunday at 1 pm with a trip to the state final four on the line.
