By Travis Berardi
NORTH BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, OH -- Despite losing a majority of their skill players from last season's 9-1 playoff squad, the Northmor Golden Knights didn't lose a step using a dominant rushing performance to knock off Grandview Heights 34-0 on Friday night on the new artificial turf playing surface at Northmor High School.
The Golden Knights (1-0) took the opening kickoff and quickly drove the field, highlighted by a 30-yard pass play from Quarterback Marcus Cortez to Tight End Andrew Armrose, but before the Golden Knights could punch in their first score of the season inclement approached the area causing a two-hour delay.
Once the teams were able to get back on the field it only took Northmor two plays to find the endzone as Fullback Max Lower ran in from two yards away. He also ran in the conversion giving the Golden Knights an 8-0 lead.
Grandview Heights (0-1) had the ball only for three plays on its opening possession fumbling the ball away setting up another Golden Knight score as Cortez found Armrose on fourth and goal from the 5 making it 16-0 after another Lower two-point run.
The Bobcats then coughed up the ball again on its next offensive play setting up a Cortez 23-yard run. The two point conversion failed making it 22-0 after one quarter.
The Golden Knights then put the game away in the second quarter as Lower ran in from 65 yards away out of the wildcat formation making it 28-0 and one possession later Northmor finished the scoring on a Garrett Corwin 18-yard rush to make it 34-0.
The Golden Knights were led by Lower, who carried the ball for 125 yards on 16 carries with two touchdowns and two conversion runs.
Northmor totaled 290 yards of total offense with 239 of them coming on the ground.
The Golden Knights will take to the road on Friday opening KMAC play at East Knox with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 PM.
