Minutemen Whip Shelby 71-53 In Season Finale

With the state basketball tournament getting underway next week for the boys, Lexington scored an impressive 71-53 victory over Richland County rival Shelby to close the regular season on a high note.

The Minutemen (13-9) seized control of the game from the opening tip, putting together an 18-0 first quarter run that saw them ahead on the scoreboard 21-4 going into the second. The Whippets (17-5) would start to chip away at the deficit by trimming the margin down to 32-16 by the half and entered the fourth quarter within striking distance at 44-32.

Over the final eight minutes, the Minutemen outscored their opponent 27-21 to close out a confidence-boosting win after dropping three of their previous four matchups. 

Lexington would hold Shelby's leading scorer T.J. Pugh to just 7 points in the contest, as they put three players in double figures led by Max Waldruff who finished with 19 pts on 8-10 shooting, Danny Shaffer with 13 pts and Kaydan Berry's 11 pts, 5 rebs and 4 asts.

Grant Gossom was the only scorer to top double-figures for the Whippets with 20.

Lexington will next face Ontario (16-6) for the D2 Bucyrus sectional championship while Shelby awaits the winner between Galion (2-20) and Clear Fork (8-14).
