Tygers Late Surge Squashes Jackets

Mansfield Senior used a monster fourth quarter effort to put an end to their 4-game skid, downing Mount Vernon at Pete Henry Gymnasium, 50-40.

The Tygers got off to a promising start, attacking the paint and knocking down a trio of 3-pointers to open up a 16-9 first quarter lead. The Jackets flipped the script in the second stanza, however, outscoring Senior High 16-8 to close the gap down to 25-24 by the half.

Offensively, Mansfield continued to struggle in the third, falling behind 38-29 with less than a minute to go in the quarter. Sparked by the energy created by Myles Bradley, who would go on to earn the T-Y Hustle Belt, the Tygers would go on to dominate for the remainder of the night.

Senior High would close the game on a  21-2 run, holding Mount Vernon to a single bucket in the final frame. Shad Creamer would drop nine of his dozen points in the fourth, with backcourt mate Roger Merrell III posting four of his game-high 16 to help get Mansfield that winning feeling back.

Evan Boatright had a solid 12 pts, 7 rebound performance for the Jackets, with teammate Blake Meyer adding 8 and 4.

The win pushes Mansfield Senior to 5-8 on the season, while Mt Vernon dips to 6-10.
