Lucas Takes Out Warriors At O-Rena

The D4 state-ranked Lucas Cubs showed they were for real with a road win over D2 power Ontario, knocking off the Warriors inside the O-Rena 53-50 to remain perfect through their first 12 games.

Lucas led for most of the game, taking an 18-17 advantage into the second quarter where they extended their margin to 34-31 by the break. Cubs leading scorer Logan Niswander would pour in 11 first half points to put his team out in front but would be held to just one over the final two frames, while Ethan Wallace scored eight of his 10 in the opening half.

The Warriors best period would be the third where a trio of triples helped them take a 44-43 edge into the fourth with Griffin Shaver hitting his second quarter-ending 3-pointer to end the stanza. The final eight minutes would belong to Riley Gossom, who scored 10 of his game-high 21 points, including a pair of clutch buckets and a free throw in the final minute of action.

Ontario had opportunities to tie the game late and force OT, but Shaver's trifecta attempt just before the final buzzer would come up short to keep Lucas unbeaten at 12-0.

Shaver ended the night with 13 while Shaquan Coburn led the Warriors with 15 and Kolten Jurtz added 10.

The Cubs (12-0) will next host St. Peter's (3-9) while the Warriors (9-4) head to River Valley.
