Cubs Football Want It All In 2020
Ethan Backfield Duo Carrying Torch
July 24, 2020
There's a football tradition building at Lucas that perfectly dovetails toughness with winning and the Cubs have showcased both during the Scott Spitler era. 2019 was the program's unmatched apex for both to this point though, making history on their way to a State Championship appearance in Canton.
There have been a few occasions during the Lucas playoff streak dating back to 2014 where holes left by decorated graduating classes seemed imposing, but the next player in line has repeatedly filled those gaps. Can a town of roughly 600 keep producing the same hard-nosed talent?
This season will be another great opportunity for the unknown future playmakers to step up for the Cubs who do welcome back the Ethan backfield duo of Sauder and Wallace, a veteran pair of seniors committed to carrying the torch for the program.
"The main thing we talked about during the offseason is not being complacent with how far we got last year," Sauder told OH.Report. "This year we want it all. We want to get there, we want to win it."
"I know we're all hungry, us seniors, returning people, we're all hungry," added Wallace. "We want it bad. That's why we're out here grinding in the heat with the circumstances right now."
The Cubs open at home against former conference rival Danville at Bob Wine Field in just over a month. Lucas flattened the Devils 32-12 last year but Danville had their number previously.
