Lions Free Throw Freddies Out Of Tournament 52-45

FREDERICKTOWN --- The Liberty Union Lady Lions used a strong performance from the charity stripe to pull off the minor upset of the Fredericktown Freddies 52-45 in a Division 3 Sectional Final.

After an even first quarter at 12 apiece, the 7th-seeded Lady Lions used a near-perfect first half free throw shooting performance finishing the first 16 minutes 12-13 from the line to help take a 21-17 lead into the break.

The exhibition continued in the second half as Liberty Union continued to get to the line and knock down attempts, but the 4th-seeded Freddies kept the game close staying within two possessions at 34-28 after three despite not having leading scorer Gabby Daniels on the floor for regular minutes due to illness.

The Lady Lions then pulled away in the fourth, once again, using the line for its offense as Abbie Riddle, who hit 15-of-17 free throw attempts helped put the game away.

Liberty Union will travel to 6th-seeded West Jefferson on Tuesday night for a Division 3 Central District semifinal as they were led by Riddle's game high 29 points while Caroline Berlekamp also scored in double figures with 10 points.

Fredericktown was led by Jacklyn Nussbaum's 10 points while Daniels and Grace Sipes added 8 points each.

You can watch the full game above with Travis Berardi and Kris Leiter on the call.
