Lady Lex Earns 1st OCC Title Since 2007

For the first time since head coach Jessica Brokaw was playing high school ball at Lexington, the Lady Lex claimed at least a share of the OCC championship with a 53-36 victory over Mansfield Senior.

A hot start for the Lady Tygers (6-12) would force Lexington (12-8) to dig themselves out of an early double-digit hole, trailing 14-4 at the end of the first quarter. A stern chat from Brokaw with her team in between frames would kick them into gear for the second, outscoring Senior High 19-2 to hold a 23-16 lead at the half.

Lady Lex continued their dominance out of the break with a 15-6 third quarter spurt that put them in control of the contest at 38-22 before closing out the win behind Gabby Stover's 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Avery Coleman also posted a double-double for Lex with 10 pts and 10 rebs, while both Kaleigh Leadbetter and Lizzie Hamler added six points each. Pacing Mansfield's offensive attack was Akira Johnson with 13 pts on 6-11 shooting, with Jayjahnae Feagin posting 11 pts and 11 rebs.
