D2 District Semifinals Lexington H.S.
Lexington vs Ontario
Ontario Nets District Final Berth,
Knock Off Lexington 3-1
For a third straight season, Ontario will battle Madison for the Division II District Championship after the #3 Lady Warriors punched their ticket to the final with a 3-1 win over #2 Lexington.
Playing on their home turf, Lady Lex took a 1-0 advantage at the 27:45 mark of the opening half on a goal by leading scorer Lacee Bethea. Ontario then settled in and began to dictate the action, setting up a pair of scores to own a 2-1 halftime edge.
Freshman Kyla Spencer headed in a corner kick with 11:23 remaining in the half before Riley Kinney, who set up Spencer off the set-piece, delivered the go-ahead goal less than a minute later.
The Lady Warriors continued to own the run of play in the second half, eventually taking a 3-1 lead on an Alaina Reed bomb from 25-yards out with 23:51 to go in the match. Lexington produced just a handful of scoring opportunities from that point forward but could not beat Ontario keeper Sydney Large to draw any closer on the scoreboard.
The impressive victory sends the Lady Warriors (13-3-2) to Saturday's District Final at Lexington where they will look to knock off the 2-time defending champs in top-seeded Madison (14-1-4), who beat Clear Fork 4-0 in their semifinal matchup.
Lady Lex finishes their impressive season at 13-4-1 and will say goodbye to seven seniors.
