ONTARIO vs LEXINGTON
Lex Beats Ontario In 2OT For District Crown
For the second year in a row, Lexington and Ontario met with a trip to Regionals on the line. Much like last season, extra time was needed to decide a winner beyond regulation. In the final minutes of their second overtime session, the Minutemen would lock up the district crown with a dramatic 2-1 victory over their cross-county rivals.
The Warriors would find the back of the net first on a Jayden Jacobs header less than nine minutes into the match, but Isaac Weber responded with the equalizer for Lex just over three minutes later. Over the next 94 minutes and change, these Richland County foes battled one another in a chippy affair that would see the purple and gold slow down a bit once the contest reached extra sessions.
Then with only three minutes to play in the second extra session, sophomore Ryan Parker delivered the game-winning goal for the Minutemen heading a cross from Weber that somehow escaped the clutches of Ontario senior keeper Matt Weaver to end the match. The Minutemen win also marks a program milestone with the school reaching it’s 400th all-time victory.
Ontario finishes their season as District runners-up with a 12-6-2 record.
Lexington (14-5-0) now moves on to face the winner of the Elyria District at Wooster in the Regional Semifinals.
