Minutemen Edge Mansfield Sr. 41-39

An OCC rivalry game fittingly came down to the final possession where Lexington got a huge stop to earn a 41-39 win over Mansfield Senior on the road at Pete Henry Gymnasium.

It was a defensive battle throughout the contest with both teams using pressure to generate opponent mistakes as the Minutemen turned the ball over 23 times but forced the Tygers into 15 giveaways. Senior High would hold Lexington to eight points or less in three quarters of play, building an 11-8 advantage after the first and led 18-16 at the half.

The Minutemen would then use a 12-2 run in the third to help give them the upper hand heading into the final frame where they would be pushed, but never allowed Mansfield to overtake them on the scoreboard. A late Tygers rally would pull them within a bucket as the controlled the ball for the final shot, but a slashing Roger Merrell III would misfire on the game-tying attempt to preserve a key league win for Lexington on the road.

Merrell led the Tygers with 9 points but finished 3-18 from the field, Shad creamer also added 9 pts with 2 assists while Trevin Hines and Davin Brown both scored 7 each.

Max Waldruff was the lone player in double-figure scoring with 15 pts to go along with 4 rebounds while teammates Isaiah Pack and Kaydan Berry each chipped-in with 9 pts and 15 combined rebs.

Lexington improves to 7-3, 4-1 with the win while Mansfield slides to 3-3, 2-2.
