Galion Advances To 3rd Straight District Final
The Galion softball team found themselves in familiar territory following a 2-1 victory over Edison, punching their ticket to the Division III Lexington District Championship for the third consecutive season.
The 2nd-seeded Tigers put together a complete defensive performance, holding the Chargers in check throughout the night by making a number of key plays in the field. Starting pitcher Madelyn Thomas allowed one run on eight hits and two walks while striking out a pair, hurling her way out of trouble when Galion needed it most with help from her solid defensive unit.
Both of the Tigers runs came in a third inning extra-base flurry that started with a Teanna Greter double, followed by an RBI double from the bat of Gabby Kaple and capped-off by another double by Nevaeh Clark that gave Galion a 2-0 advantage. Fifth-seeded Edison later trimmed the deficit to a single run as Kayla Mancuso came through with an RBI hit in their offensive half of the fifth, but could only produce one more base runner the rest of the way.
The Tigers will next battle cross-county rival #6 Bucyrus, who upset #3 Margaretta 1-0 in their semifinal matchup, for the Lexington District crown.
