Carpenter's Three Lifts Fredericktown Past East Knox 53-50

HOWARD --- The Fredericktown Freddies needed a three in the games' final minute to hold off East Knox 53-50 to remain unbeaten.

Fredericktown (12-0, 8-0 KMAC) jumped out to a 14-10 lead after one and extended it to 30-22 at the break, but East Knox (6-6, 4-4 KMAC) stormed out of the half with a strong third quarter outscoring the Freddies 24-16 to tie the game at 46 heading to the fourth.

The final period was the exact opposite of the third as both teams slowed down the pace while picking up their defenses with the Bulldogs taking a 50-48 lead with less than two minutes left.

Fredericktown then gained possession and ran time down under a minute before player-of-the-game Kaid Carpenter hit a three to give the #5 team in Division 3 the lead at 51-50. East Knox then couldn't score on its' possession and had to foul allowing Caleb Sheriff to hit two free throws extending the Freddies lead to 53-50 with 5 seconds left.

The Bulldogs had one final look to tie before the buzzer, but Shane Knepp's tying attempt missed off the front iorn allowing Fredericktown to escape and remain unbeaten.

The Freddies were led by Carpenter and Thomas Cuputo, who each scored 12 points. Sheriff scored 11 points while Ty Hatfield also scored in double figures with 10 points.

East Knox was led by Weston Melick's game high 19 points while Peyton Lester added 12 points.
