Centerburg Hands Freddies 1st Loss,

Take Over 1st Place In KMAC

CENTERBURG -- A 62-58 victory for Centerburg over Fredericktown vaulted the Trojans to the top of the KMAC standings while handing the state-ranked Freddies thair first loss of the season.

During the first quarter, Centerburg (9-1) took a strong early lead, and didn’t look like a team who had only played one game in 2021 due to quarantine issues. Then a new Sheriff emerged in town with Fredericktown (14-1) senior guard Caleb Sherrif gutting the Trojan’s defense before Centerburg went on a late second quarter run to own a 29-20 halftime edge.

Both teams exchanged haymakers left and right in the third, draining seven total three-pointers in the frame as the Freddies battled back to within 44-41 entering the fourth. Over the final eight minutes, the Freddies would remain within striking distance but clutch free throws by Mick Mead in the closing seconds would help the Trojans close out a huge win to jump in the drivers seat in the league title chase
