The Mansfield Christian Flames knocked off rival St. Peter's 4-1 in a Division 3 Sectional Semifinal on
Wednesday afternoon at Comstock Field.

The seventh-seeded Flames got on the board first 17 minutes in when Shane Earhart took a shot from
outside of the box and went through the St. Peter's keeper's legs for a 1-nil lead. MCS added on in the 21st minute when Matt Golias worked his way through three defenders and found an open Braden Loose to make it 2-0.

 

The Flames then added another score in the opening half when Earhart broke free of the Spartans defense and shot one past a diving St. Peter's defender making it 3-0 at the half.

The eighth-seeded Spartans got onto the board in the 48th minute when Zachary Newton was awarded
a direct kick at the top of the Mansfield Christian box and smashed one into the right corner of the net to trim the deficit to 3-1. The Flames answered three minutes later, however, as a shot deflected off of the keepers hands to an open Ryan Mecurio, who headed the ball into the open net for the final goal of the match.

Mansfield Christian moves on to the Sectional Final as they travel to second-seeded Van Buren on
Saturday at noon.
