Defense Carries East Knox To 7-6 Win Over Danville
The 'Devil-Dog' game would play out as a slugfest at Chet Looney Stadium where East Knox pulled out a 7-6 victory over Danville by holding the Blue Devils scoreless in the second half.
The first half saw both teams march into the others red zone before the opposing defenses stood tall to force turnovers on downs, keeping the game even at 0-0 until Danville eventually punched in a short touchdown run just before the half. Levi Lyons 1-yard scoring lunge came with just 9-seconds remaining in the second quarter, but the Bulldogs blocked the PAT to keep the deficit at 6-0 heading into the break.
East Knox would then score on the opening drive of the second half with our Mazza's Player of the Game winner, Bulldogs senior Weston Melick, setting up his own 1-yard TD run with a long catch and run to make it 7-6 Dogs. Melick would later recover a Danville fumble, as the Blue Devils turned it over twice in the second half to end potential scoring threats.
A potential go-ahead field goal in the fourth quarter would sail wide left for Danville's Max Payne, who would later drive his offense deep into Dogs territory in the final seconds but came up empty as East Knox holds on to win on homecoming night.
