Crestview Stays Unbeaten With 3-1 Win Over Flames

The expectations for the Crestview girls’ soccer team continue to rise with each passing week. With 10 games in the books, the Lady Cougars remain undefeated at 9-0-1 after winning a key conference matchup at Mansfield Christian, 3-1, in a high-level battle.

Senior All-Ohioan Carley Campo put Crestview up early, giving her squad a 1-0 edge just over five minutes into the match. The Lady Flames would settle in from that point forward, however, and dictate much of the action throughout the remainder of the opening half.

Junior striker Megan Wilging provided the equalizer at the 23:30 mark and continued to apply pressure to the Lady Cougars defense by connecting well on passes to maintain possession. Mansfield Christian would not be able to capitalize on their 20-18 shot advantage for the match, though, but found themselves tied with state-ranked Crestview at the half.

A penalty in the box set up the go-ahead goal for the Lady Cougars with Eden McFarland scoring on the ensuing penalty kick for a 2-1 advantage. Less than five minutes later, a through ball found it’s way to Campo who sent home her second goal to create some distance on the scoreboard.

Despite putting together what head coach Ariel Dials called “the best game we have played”, the Lady Flames (6-3-1) would not be able to match Crestview’s scoring, but left the pitch knowing they can compete with one of the top teams in the state. A rematch in the state tournament is certainly expected, where the Lady Cougars hope to arrive with a still unblemished record.
