St. Paul Avoids Crestline Upset Bid 58-55 In Overtime

NORWALK --- The St. Paul Flyers are headed back to a Division 4 Willard District Semifinal after fighting off the Crestline Bulldogs upset bid 58-55 in overtime.

The #7 Bulldogs played its game to start slowing things down and along with poor shooting from beyond the arc by the #3 Flyers, were able to keep the game even at 10 after one.

St. Paul was able to establish a lead in the second quarter thanks to a 6-0 run midway through and 20 combined points from Nick and Nate Winslow, but Crestline was able to finish the half on a 4-1 run to cut its deficit to 24-18 at the break.

The Bulldogs then came out of the half on fire opening the third on a 10-2 run to take a 28-26 lead. The Flyers finally hit its first three of the game with under a minute remaining in the quarter to cut the Crestline lead to 1, but a Brock Noblit layup with time running out bumped the Bulldog lead to 38-35 with 8 minutes remaining.

St. Paul then jumped out to its largest lead of the night at 6 midway through the fourth, but back-to-back threes by Calvin Reed tied the game. Crestline then built a 3 point lead with less than a minute remaining when they got a defensive rebound, however, Winslow was able to come away with a steal and dish to a wide open Scotty Adelman, who hit his second three of the night to tie the game and force overtime.

The Flyers then went 5-of-9 from the free throw line in overtime to hold off the upset bid and take the Sectional Championship.

Nick Winslow led all scorers with 23 points to lead the Flyers while Nate followed with 17 points. Adelman also scored in double figures with 12 points.

The Bulldogs were led by Brock Noblit's 19 points while Conner Lusk followed with 12 points and Reed also scored in double figures with 11 points.
