BUCYRUS -- It took a dramatic two-point conversion run with just 3:24 remaining to give Colonel Crawford its first first lead of the game on Friday night, and its first Iron Plow Trophy ever.

The Eagles edged Wynford 36-35 in a Northern 10 showdown of unbeaten teams that lived up to advanced billing.

Cade Hamilton's 9-yard TD dash pulled Colonel Crawford (3-0 overall, 3-0 in the Northern 10) within 35-34. Coach Ryan Teglovic then called a timeout to strategize. The result was a fake handoff up the middle and an ensuing handoff to Lance Mollenkopf on a sweep around left end for the game-winning points.

Wynford (2-1, 2-1) drove deep into Eagles' territory on its final possession, but turned the ball over on downs at the CC 29.

The Eagles earned their first win over the Royals since 2013. The Iron Plow Trophy was established the following season, in 2014.

Wynford led the game throughout, moving on top 12-0 early before forging a 12-6 lead through the first quarter. It expanded to 20-6 at halftime. The Royals enjoyed a 27-21 margin going into the final period and had a 35-21 advantage with 10:42 remaining before the Eagles ripped off a furious rally.

Colonel Crawford improves to 3-0 and sits alone atop the conference. The Eagles have how now claimed victories over two of the top contenders in the league, Carey and Wynford. Teglovic's club is looking for its first conference championship since 2013.

The Eagles host Mohawk next week.
