State Bound: Colonel Crawford Track Studs

The state track meet will be held at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus this weekend where a five-pack of Colonel Crawford athletes will be competing.

The most notable of the group is defending 3,200 meters state champion Chad Johnson who is a heavy favorite to retain his Division III title after finishing undefeated in local events throughout the season. He would also be in the mix for the individual 1,600 championship had he not accepted an invitation to compete in the Brooks PR a few days later in Seattle, Washington where he will run the two-mile against some of the best distance athletes in the country.

Johnson will, however, take part in the Eagles 4x800 meters relay team that took second at Regionals this past weekend with a time of 8:10. Along with junior Braxton James, who will also compete at state in the individual 800 meters, and senior’s Brody Martin and Cody Reed, the squad expects to break the school record and make the podium.

The same can be said for sophomore high jumper Drew Krassow, who also had a second-place showing at Regionals with a jump of 5’ 5”. She believes a leap better than the program standard of 5’ 6” should secure a spot for her in the top-eight.
