Late Clyde TD Buries Huron 28-21
By Karson Kennedy & Brian Skowronski
HURON -- The defending Division IV State Champions are still alive as #11 Clyde scored a late touchdown to knock off previously undefeated Huron 28-21 in the Region 14 Quarterfinals.
The #11 Fliers, who are one of the lowest remaining seeds still playing in any division, played staunch defense and rode a pair of Michael Daniels rushing scores to a 14-0 halftime lead. The Tigers (7-1) cut the deficit to a single score midway through the third on a Ben Wainwright TD grab, but saw Abe Morrison shake loose on a long scoring run on Clyde's ensuing possession to grow their lead to 21-7.
Less than two minutes later, Huron struck paydirt again with Richie Delaney hauling in a catch in the end zone and the Tigers would square things up at 21-21 with 7:55 to play as J.J. Holiday dove in for a short rushing score. But like they did last year on their way to the state title as a number eight seed, the Fliers made a game-winning play with Griffin Noftz haling in the deciding TD with just over a minute on the clock.
Clyde (6-3) will next travel to face #2 Shelby (8-0) in a Regional Semifinal rematch from last year.
