Randall’s Buzzer Beater Wins Shelby MOAC Title

It took an unbelievable finish to an impressive comeback for Shelby to claim a league championship at Marion Harding, but a game-winning Emma Randall bucket at the horn sealed an MOAC clinching 55-53 victory.

Though there were a number of spurts by both sides throughout this back and forth affair, each quarter began with the team’s separated by no more than two points. The contest was tied at 13-13 after one before the Lady Presidents took a 31-29 edge into the break, but the Lady Whippets pulled ahead 40-38 entering the final frame.

Harding found a groove past the midway point of the fourth and built a 51-44 cushion, but Shelby would explode for an 11-2 run in the closing minutes to steal the game. The icing on the championship winning performance was Randall’s buzzer-beater following an out of bounds play with just 2.1 seconds remaining to end the game.

Cierra Gurney added 10 points to complement Randall’s game-high 19 as Shelby remains perfect in the MOAC at 11-0 and notched their 15th win of the season to just 1 loss. Ariyah Douglas led Harding, who dipped to 12-6, 7-4, with 16 points.
