Top-Seeded Mohawk Shuts Down Bucks For District Final Spot
For the first time since 2016, the top-seeded Mohawk baseball team will compete for a District Championship after shutting out #4 Buckeye Central 4-0 in the Division IV semifinals at Heise Park in Galion.
Both starting pitchers put on impressive displays with Bucks righty Brady Biglin striking out 12 while allowing 4 runs on 7 hits. He gave up a run in the first on a Tanner Osborn RBI single, then settled in until a series of fifth inning mishaps saw a trio of Warriors runs cross the plate.
Senior standout Cole Widmer kept Buckeye Central off balance throughout the contest, throwing seven scoreless innings for Mohawk with a nasty curveball to complement his heater. Widmer allowed just 4 hits while striking out 10, as he improved to 6-1 on the hill with an ERA of 0.61.
Sophomore 3rd baseman Trey Combs scored a pair of Warriors runs, finishing 2-3 from the dish with a double.
The Bucks wrap-up their season at 10-18 with their first appearance at districts since 2012.
#1 Mohawk (19-6) will next battle #2 Colonel Crawford (21-7) for the Galion District title.
