The Cleveland Indians and second-year starting pitcher Shane Bieber continued their hot streak with a 4-0 win in Toronto to close out a 3-game series win over the Blue Jays.
Bieber improved to 10-3 as he struck out 10 and walked one, achieving his second career complete game. He is the youngest Indians pitcher to throw a shutout with 10 K’s while only allowing 1 hit or fewer since 22-year-old Dennis Eckersley in 1977, according to MLB.com.
Offensively, outfielder Greg Allen knocked out 3 hits and an RBI while Jose Ramirez had a pair of hits and scored a run. Jordan Luplow and Oscar Mercado added sacrifice RBI to round out Cleveland’s scoring.
The win pulls the Indians (59-42) to within two games of the Twins in the AL Central standings with 14 wins in the month of July and a MLB best 30-12 record since June 12.
