Crestview Cracks Arrows 60-36

OLIVESBURG - The Ashland Arrows of the OCC traveled to play the Crestview Cougars of the Firelands Conference, for a out of conference matchup with the Arrows, under new head coach Renee Stimpert who is a Crestview alum, off to a slow start in 2021.

Through the first period the Cougars jumped out to an early 20-12 lead due to Kenedi Goon and Autumn Bailey both notching six in the quarter. Crestview began to pull away in the 2nd quarter as their suffocating defense forced 13 turnovers which led to baskets on the other end.

Ashland struggled from the floor all night long, only registering 6 field goals through the first two periods of play. At the end of the first half Mary Leeper led the Cougars with 11 as she exploded during the 2nd quarter. She lived at the free throw line hitting 6 at the charity stripe.

At the halftime break the Cougars were at a healthy advantage with a 35-22 edge but both came out of the locker room cold from the floor. The Arrows only scored  7 points in the 3rd period as Breena Plank knocked down a 3 and a layup at the rim. Leeper continued  her hot start and added 5 more points in the third quarter while Goon began to heat up and totaled 6 as well in the 3rd period.

Going into the final quarter the Cougars stifling defense carried on by forcing turnovers left and right as they forced a total of 25 giveaways in the contest. The Cougars put their foot on the gas pedal and put the Arrows away at the free throw line, hitting 4 free throws to ice the game away and win a non conference affair 60-36.

Watch the full broadcast with Storm Bluntschly and Garret Parlett on the call complete with an interview with Scout Construction player of the game Mary Leeper who scored 16 and knocked down 6 free throws. Her partner in crime Kenedi Goon dominated in the low post with a 20 piece herself as Crestview moves to 7-2 on the year, and the Ashland falls to 1-7.
