Royals Pushing For Postseason Return
Aug 6, 2020
The Wynford Royals were thrilled to be out on the gridiron for the official start of the 2020 season. There are a lot of unknowns this year, however, grinding in the offseason isn’t one of them. Coming off a solid year for the Royals where they won a share of the Northern 10 Conference championship at 7-3, and of course beating their cross-city rival Bucyrus 40-7, Wynford looks to continue their winning ways this year.
Senior Quarterback Dustin Brady has high hopes, telling OH.Report, “ Well this will be my third year as a starter, and I feel like I know the ins and the outs of the offense. Coach has me calling plays whenever we are in seven-on-sevens, during the team seven-on-sevens or anything. I’m always trying to encourage our guys to lead them and show them right from wrong.”
Head coach Gabe Helbert talked about the difference between 2019 and 2020 with COVID restrictions being a huge factor. “ Work ethic wise I think it’s very similar our kids have done a great job year in and year out, understanding the importance of the offseason and how much that plays into the success of the season and that’s been very similar," Helbert says. "Just small pods, we're barely in the weight room because we can only have one group in there at a time. A lot of small groups outside the weight room to try to change up the training to keep our kids safe and our coaches safe.”
Looking for another conference title run, the Royals are on a path to be champs again in 2020. However, the past few years they’ve had to share the title with conference foes. Wynford has an abundance of skill players and an experienced quarterback they will look to ride towards the program's first outright league title since 2017.
