State-Ranked Willard Dunks #1 St. Paul 63-61
In a showdown between state-ranked foes inside Harvey Keller Gymnasium, D3 #7 Willard knocked off D4 #1 Norwalk St. Paul 63-61, surviving a game-winning shot at the final horn to defeat the Flyers.
The Crimson Flashes (12-1) led from the opening tip with senior guard Terry Baldridge Jr. throwing down an alley-oop dunk in the opening seconds that brought the visitor's student section to an uproar. Willard carried a 12-8 advantage into the second quarter where senior standout Cooper Parrot served up three triples while junior forward Myles Pinkston poured in eight of his 14 points, extending their lead to 35-28 by the half.
Parrot scored nine more points in the third, finishing with a game-best 25 as the Flashes outscored St. Paul 16-14 in the frame for a 51-42 edge. Midway through the fourth Brandon Furlong and Nick Winslow began to find their groove for the Flyers at the offensive end, leading a 19-12 charge to give St. Paul (11-2) a shot at the buzzer, but Scott Adelman's fade away three would carom off the back iron to secure a Willard victory.
Baldrige and sophomore Trey Paxton each scored 11 points to go along with Parrot and Pinkston's big nights while both Nick and Nate Winslow had 15 to lead the Flyers, with Adelman adding 11 and both Furlong and Jordan Shepard scoring 10 each.
