Whippets Looking To Take Next Step,
Improve In Mahaney's 2nd Season
Aug 4, 2020
With the OHSAA allowing all sports to move ahead as scheduled, Shelby looks more hungry than ever to go out and get their boots on the ground and start playing. Coming off a 8-4 playoff season falling to eventual state champion Clyde in the regional semifinals, head coach Robert Mahaney has all the confidence in his team to go out and get things done.
Mahaney told OH.Report, “It’s an exciting time, the kids are excited, we're excited. We’ve got some big goals so we have to take advantage of every day.”
This is just Mahaney's second year with the hungry hounds, but he has his team down to a science. It also helps to have senior RB Owen Fisher who's held the varsity position for three years running.
There's plenty of optimism building in Shelby for the upcoming season, where despite the many setbacks and restrictions, football is back. Only time will tell if the season will be everything the team expects it to be, but at least for now, the promise of football is enough to keep everyone in Shelby excited and hopeful.
