Lima C.C. Takes Shootout In Shelby
The Lima Central Catholic powerful offense helped the Thunderbirds push past the Shelby Whippets with a 55-41 in a shootout at Skiles Field.
The Thunderbirds (7-1) put up 620 yards of total offense as RB Shaun Thomas carried the ball 18 times for 316 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also had 4 receptions for 113 yards and two more scores for 429
scrimmage yards and 6 TD's.
The Whippets (5-3) also put up massive offensive numbers totaling 407 yards as RB Owen Fisher carried the ball 22 times for 121 yards and a score while McGwire Albert was 20-of-41 passing for 203 yards and 2
touchdowns, carrying the ball 13 times for 91 yards and 2 scores.
Grant Gossom also joined in on the scoring with a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown as the Whippets kept it close trailing by 7 at the break, but the Thunderbirds pushed its lead to 42-20 in the third for a commanding advantage.
Shelby would cut the lead to 48-41 with 4:24 remaining, but couldn't stop Thomas on a key 4th and 1 play as he rumbled 44 yards into the end zone to clinch the game.
Shelby drops 2 spots in the Division 4, Region 14 rankings to 12th, but still are in the playoff race as they face 6-2 River Valley and 5-3 Clear Fork to finish the regular season.
Lima Central Catholic moves to third in the Division 6, Region 23 standings and controls its own destiny for the postseason.
