Wapakoneta Ends Ontario’s Streak For Regional Championship

In a highly anticipated matchup to decide the Division II Bowling Green Regional Championship, the streaking Ontario Warriors gave top-ranked Wapakoneta everything they could handle.

Riding a 25-game win streak into the title game, the Warriors jumped out to a 2-0 advantage when junior RF Noah Creed smacked a 2-RBI double in the bottom half of the first inning. After the Redskins tied things up with a pair of runs in the third, Ontario then reclaimed the lead by scoring on an error in their offensive half of the frame.

Wapakoneta would plate three unanswered runs in the fifth and sixth to hold a 5-3 edge heading into the bottom half of the seventh where the Warriors would find a way to force extra innings by scoring two runs. The top half of the eighth would cost Ontario a potential trip to the state final four, however, as they walked seven Redskins batters and allowed six runs in the inning. The Warriors were unable to answer back in the bottom half of the inning, dropping the game by a final of 11-5.

Ontario (25-4) wraps-up their season as Regional Runners-Up while Wapakoneta (23-1) will advance to face Circleville (19-10) in the State Semifinals.
