Ontario vs Madison
Unlikely Hero Helps Madison Close Out Ontario 4-2
It was a playoff-style atmosphere on hand at Madison when the Lady Rams hosted cross-county rival Ontario, where a newcomer to the varsity level would provide the game-clinching play.
It took state-ranked Madison under four minutes to claim a 2-0 advantage with goals by Chesney Davis (39:07) and Phyllis Stanfield (36:06) putting the Lady Warriors in an early hole. Kaylee Calhoun would trim Ontario's deficit in half at the 27:53 mark on a deep shot that squirted away from keeper Morgan Rachel, and the 2-1 Lady Rams lead would survive until the break.
Riley Kinney would later deliver the equalizer with just over twelve minutes gone in the second half, but All-American Taylor Huff would strike back for Madison less than seven minutes later to give the Lady Rams a 3-2 edge. Then following a near scoring opportunity for the Lady Warriors, Huff found Shannon Jamieson just inside the eighteen who blasted her first career varsity goal past keeper Sydney Large to ice the match with under six minutes remaining.
The loss for Ontario (8-3-2) is their second in three matches following a nine-game unbeaten streak. Madison (10-1-3) ends a three-match winless run with the victory as both teams closout their regular season's next weekend before preparing for a potential rematch in the Division II District tournament.
